Washington 98033

February 11, 1987

To Whom It May Concern:

Greg McBride organized and provided an outstanding drug/alcohol awareness
program for the student teachers and parents at Holy Family School for the
1986-87 school year. Greg covered all of his program with a professional
caring attitude. In very little time he built a rapport with all of the students
and staff that promoted very sensitive discussions. Greg spotted students who
seem to be exhibiting signals that may be clues for drug/alcohol or related
problems. His easy mannerisms made him very approachable for adults and children.
He shared a genuine concern for the whole person. Greg spent time helping the
school board and faculty develop a documentation policy that would help students
receive intervention if there is a need.

The student program was divided into three groups. The primary program
taught by Greg covered self-esteem and decision making and refusal skills.
The intermediate program built on the primary program and added basic information
on alcohol and other drugs. The junior high program included all of the above
and an in-depth look at alcohol, marijuana and other drugs. The students were
taught to differentiate between use, abuse and addiction. Greg included a
recovering teen speaker in the program and then had the students draw their
personal lines.

The faculty training focused on an overview of what Greg would be present-
ing to the students. Greg then went into basic pharmacology and physiology of
drugs and sign and symptoms. Time was spent discussing Children of Alcoholics
and the Chemical Dependent Family System. Resources and intervention methods
were discussed with the faculty.

The parent program was a one night meeting prior to Greg working with the
students. Facts on adolescent alcoholism prevention, roadblocks and stages
were among the topics shared with the parents.

[We] definitely recommend Greg for any position that would challenge him to
share his expertise with children or adults. He has been an asset to our school
and will be so to others who wish to use his skills.

Sincerely,

Maureen Blum Principal

<< Click here to go back
